Girl, 6, dies after Montreal stabbing

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 23 Jul, 2020 10:46 PM
  • Girl, 6, dies after Montreal stabbing

A six-year-old girl was stabbed in an east-end Montreal residence early Thursday morning and died of her injuries hours later in hospital, police said.

Montreal police said they are considering her death a homicide.

The girl's 36-year-old mother was found at the scene and taken to hospital with minor injuries. At the time of the girl's death, police had not yet questioned the mother.

"For this reason, she remains an important witness to the event," Const. Rapahel Bergeron said in a phone message to journalists recorded Thursday afternoon.

"No charges for the moment, but following the meeting with investigators everything could change."

Police said they received an anonymous 911 call about the incident around 3 a.m. Thursday. The girl was taken to hospital in critical condition where she died hours later.

A perimeter was erected around the building to allow technicians to analyze the scene, and those experts were still on site as of early Thursday afternoon, Bergeron said.
