Ghomeshi lawyer appears in Toronto court, next hearing on Feb. 26

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 04 Feb, 2015 10:56 AM

TORONTO — Lawyers for Jian Ghomeshi appeared briefly in a Toronto courtroom this morning to set a new date in his headline-grabbing sexual assault case.

The disgraced former CBC Radio host did not appear as counsel Danielle Robitaille told court her legal team had received more than 1,000 documents related to the Crown's allegations but were seeking more.

The 47-year-old Ghomeshi faces seven counts of sexual assault and one of overcoming resistance by choking for incidents alleged to have occurred in 2002, 2003 and 2008.

Ghomeshi has admitted he engaged in rough sex but insisted it was always consensual and has vowed to fight the allegations in court.

His lawyer Marie Henein has said he will plead not guilty to all charges.

CBC fired Ghomeshi in October after executives saw what they described as graphic evidence that he had physically injured a woman.

Ghomeshi's bail conditions require him to remain in Ontario and live with his mother.

Another hearing has been scheduled for Feb. 26.
