Gavinder Grewal, Jason Himpfen Charged For Mandy Johnson’s Murder In Abbotsford

Darpan News Desk Darpan, 16 Jun, 2016 10:43 AM
29-year-old Indo-Canadian man Gavinder Grewal and Jason Himpfen, 41, have been charged with manslaughter in Mandy Johnson’s death  in Abbotsford six years ago.

Grewal is also charged with attempted murder in the shooting of her boyfriend, Gator Browne, who escaped the attack unharmed.

Himpfen has also been charged with attempted murder in relation to Browne and with second degree murder in Johnson's slaying.

The shooting took place around 3 a.m. PT on July 28, 2010, in the 31100 block of Polar Avenue. Police said at the time that Browne was well known to police, and that they believed the shooting was related to the street level drug trade.

"IHIT has remained committed to obtaining justice for Mandy Johnson despite the passage of time, and we would be remiss if we did not thank the family and friends for their patience and trust in us for the past six years," RCMP Staff Sgt Jennifer Pound said in a statement.

Mandy Johnson’s family thanked the investigators for their perseverance and said that Johnson was "innocent and did not deserve to die."

“She was a loving mother, an amazing daughter, a wonderful sister and the best friend to many. Her only fault was falling in love with a guy that didn't deserve her and trusting that her love would be enough. It was not enough, and she sadly paid with her life,” the statement read.
