Fraser and South Thompson river levels rising: forecast centre

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 26 Jun, 2020 10:46 PM
  • Fraser and South Thompson river levels rising: forecast centre

Flood watches have been posted for the upper Fraser and South Thompson rivers.

The B.C. River Forecast Centre says heavy rainfall in parts of the central and eastern Interior over the past week prompted the flood watches.

The centre says in a statement that weekend rainfall in the forecast for those areas ranging from five to 30 millimetres has the potential to cause additional high water levels.

It says on a status update that most rivers and streams in the province aren't expected to exceed peak flows seen this spring including the Thompson and Fraser rivers, which could still flood in low-lying areas.

The remainder of the Fraser River through the province, which empties into the Strait of Georgia, is under a high streamflow advisory.

There are also high streamflow advisories posted for rivers and streams in the Shuswap, North Thompson and Chilcotin regions.
