France Michaud, Former Roche V-P In Quebec, Out On Bail After Getting 18-month Prison Term For Fraud

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 09 Jul, 2016 01:12 PM
MONTREAL — A former vice-president with the Roche engineering firm has been granted bail pending an  appeal of her guilty verdict in a fraud scheme involving Quebec municipal contracts and political financing.

France Michaud was given an 18-month prison term on Wednesday after being convicted last year on charges of fraud, conspiracy and breach of trust.

The sentence was accompanied by three years probation and various conditions.

She was told she would have to find work and not be allowed to manage other people's assets without informing her employer of her conviction.

The Crown did not oppose her release Friday.

Her sentence came less than two months after Robert Poirier, a former mayor of Montreal-area Boisbriand, received the same length of incarceration for his part in the scheme.

Poirier was mayor between 1998 and 2005.

In December, the city of Boisbriand began procedures to recoup some of the stolen money.
