Four Teens Identified As Small Fire At North Vancouver School Damages Roof, Gym

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 12 Sep, 2016 12:05 PM
VANCOUVER — Four teenagers have been identified as the youths who allegedly sparked a fire that damaged a school in North Vancouver.

RCMP say the blaze early Sunday evening caused moderate damage to the roof of Dorothy Lynas Elementary School.

Water damage has closed the school's gymnasium until further notice, but no classrooms are affected and classes resumed as usual on Monday morning.

Cpl. Richard De Jong says investigators believe the boys placed an aerosol can on a small fire they had started on the roof, but became frightened when the flames spread very quickly.

None of the teens attends the school and De Jong says the parents of the young suspects have been contacted.

He says the investigation is ongoing and criminal charges or measures that would not involve the court system are being considered to hold the youths accountable.
