Four Separate Searches In B.C.'s Backcountry End With The Rescue Of Six People

Darpan News Desk, 13 Mar, 2017 02:04 PM
  • Four Separate Searches In B.C.'s Backcountry End With The Rescue Of Six People
VERNON, B.C. — Six people are safe following four challenging weekend rescues in central and southeastern British Columbia.

Search and rescue teams responded to separate calls about injured snowmobilers on Sunday, one in the Blue River area north of Kamloops and the other near the North Okanagan city of Enderby.

In both cases, Pete Wise of Vernon Search and Rescue says the sledders were winched aboard a waiting helicopter and taken to hospital, one with a broken leg, the other with a back injury.

South Cariboo Search and Rescue located two snowmobilers Sunday after the pair spent the night on Mica Mountain near 100 Mile House.

And Fernie Search and Rescue members found the two skiers late Sunday, successfully ending a 36-hour search in southeastern B.C.

Bad weather or a high risk of avalanches complicated all the rescues, prompting Wise to urge backcountry enthusiasts to better educate themselves before setting out.
