Four people shot, suspect arrested at Western Forest Products Mill in Nanaimo

    Two people are dead and a former 47-year-old employee is under arrest following a shooting at Western Forest Products sawmill in Nanaimo, BC. The two deceased are amongst the four individuals, all males, that were shot this morning.

    "We can confirm that at about 7 a.m. [PT] this morning we received a 911 call about shots fired at a business in Nanaimo," said a statement issued by RCMP Supt. Mark Fisher.

    The injured have been taken to hospital, the RCMP said, but did not provide any further information.

    Vancouver Island Health Authority says one individual who was airlifted to Victoria General Hospital is in critical condition. One other person is in a stable condition at Nanaimo General Hospital, as per news reports.

    Conditions of two other victims have not been released yet.  

    The area around the mill is in lockdown.
