Former Quebec Premier Jacques Parizeau To Lie In State In Provincial Capital

The Canadian Press, 07 Jun, 2015 12:25 PM
MONTREAL — Jacques Parizeau will lie in the state today at the Quebec legislature, giving Quebecers a second day to pay their respects to the former premier.

Hundreds of people lined up in Montreal yesterday to pay their respects to Parizeau, who died last Monday at the age of 84.

Among those who paid their respects were Premier Philippe Couillard, Parti Quebecois Leader Pierre Karl Peladeau and Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre.

Couillard said Parizeau was a "great builder" of modern Quebec while Peledeau said the former premier was a "source of inspiration" and a great man.

The line ups in Montreal remained long for much of the afternoon.

A state funeral will be held for Parizeau on Tuesday in Montreal.
