LANGLEY, B.C. — Former NHL player Stephen Peat faces two arson charges in connection to a fire at his father's home last week.
The 35-year-old Peat turned himself into Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Langley, British Columbia, on Thursday and was charged with arson with disregard for human life and arson causing property damage.
RCMP Cpl. Holly Marks said shortly after the fire last Tuesday that the flames started after a domestic dispute between a father and son.
Police said a witness saw a person lighting the fire and made an unsuccessful attempt to stop the man.
Peat remains in custody after appearing in court on Monday morning.
Peat played in five hockey leagues over his career, including off and on for the NHL's Washington Capitals from 2001 to 2006.
