Former Harper aide facing three new lobbying charges, RCMP says

Darpan News Desk Darpan, 12 May, 2014 01:33 PM
Former senior aide to Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Bruce Carson, is charged with illegal lobbying and influence peddling.

RCMP's National Division charged Carson with three counts of lobbying while prohibited and one count of influence peddling. Carson was charged on May 7, RCMP told media. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 18.

"These charges are the result of his lobbying activities on behalf of the Canada School of Energy and Environment and on behalf of the Energy Policy Institute of Canada," said spokeswoman Cpl. Lucy Shorey.

Carson is also awaiting trial on a separate charge of influence peddling which is also referred to as "fraud on the government," over allegations that he received commission from a third party in relation with a business matter that relates to the government.

An investigation was launched into Carson in March 2011, upon receiving referrals from the Prime Minister's office.

Carson served as an advisor to PM Harper from 2006 to 2008.
