Former Constituency Staffer Pleads Guilty To Stealing From Victoria MLA's Office

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 27 Oct, 2016 01:00 PM
VICTORIA — A former constituency employee for Victoria member of the legislature Rob Fleming has pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud over $5,000.

Three other charges of theft or fraud against 45-year-old Marni Offman were stayed when she appeared in court Wednesday to make her guilty plea.

The court heard the offences occurred between 2009 and 2015 and were tied to work at Fleming's constituency office.

Special prosecutor Dirk Ryneveld says the judge granted a request that a psychiatric assessment be completed on the woman before sentencing.

He says it's important to know why this happened and what may have promoted the crime.

Another court date has been set for Jan. 11, when the court will receive the psychiatric report and set a date for sentencing.
