Fleeing fraud suspect strikes two officers with his car

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 02 Mar, 2021 07:17 PM
  • Fleeing fraud suspect strikes two officers with his car

When two men recently drove up to a local restaurant to pick up a food order, they were not expecting to be greeted by police. Alert staff had noticed that the food had allegedly been ordered with a fraudulent credit card.

The passenger was removed from the car and arrested for fraud, but the driver suddenly reversed the vehicle, striking the two officers. Additional officers responded, and the driver was arrested nearby moments later, after abandoning his car and trying to run away.

He was arrested for two counts of assaulting a police officer, dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm, fraud, use of credit card, possession of an identity document, and fail to comply with his probation order.

The two police officers were taken to hospital for further assessment and then released. They suffered soft tissue injuries.
