Five Who Died In Fiery Van Crash Were All Adults From Newfoundland: Police

The Canadian Press, 25 Mar, 2016 12:39 PM
WHITBOURNE, N.L. — Police have confirmed that the five people killed in a fiery van crash Tuesday were all adults from eastern Newfoundland.

Investigators say the passenger van collided with a pickup, swerved into a ditch and burst into flames near Long Harbour.

The RCMP say they have now notified the victims' families, but they have yet to release any names.

Police say the fire inside the van was so intense they couldn't get near it for hours.

The man driving the pickup was pulled from the vehicle and taken to hospital with serious injuries, but he is expected to survive.

Earlier Friday, the RCMP confirmed that officers who responded to the crash are being offered counselling.
