  • First degree murder charge in Restaurant shooting

A man has been convicted of first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of another man at a Richmond sushi restaurant. 

Jian Jun Zhu was killed in the September 2020 shooting at Manzo restaurant where another victim was also shot but survived.

Richard Charles Reed was originally charged in November 2021 in relation to Zhu's death.

Reed has since been convicted of murder and was also convicted of reckless discharge of a firearm and possessing the weapon.

A new report by Statistics Canada says deaths in the country's 12 highest-population cities go up on days when there is extreme heat.  The study says people aged 65 and older are the hardest hit. Cities with larger proportions of people renting their homes had higher risks of death during extreme heat events.
