Fire In Vancouver Homeless Shelter Claims Life

    VANCOUVER — One person is dead following a fire at a homeless shelter in downtown Vancouver.
     
    The fire broke out in a fourth floor room at a former Quality Inn (on Howe St.) at around 8:30 p.m.
     
    Vancouver Fire and Rescue assistant chief Joe Foster said crews found a person in the room when crews arrived.
     
    He said CPR was performed but the male victim died from his injuries.
     
    Foster said it is too early to tell how the fire started, adding it "involved a mattress of some kind."
     
    The victim's name and age have not been released. (CKNW)
