Fire In Tent In Nunavut Kills 1 Child, Seriously Injures Five Others In Family

    POND INLET, Nunavut — One child has died and five other family members have been seriously injured in a tent fire in Nunavut.
     
    RCMP say they were notified about the fire on Sunday morning.
     
    Mounties say two adults and four children were camping about two hours by boat west of Pond Inlet.
     
    Other campers contacted a local search and rescue team, which got a helicopter to bring the injured to Pond Inlet's health centre.
     
    Police say two doctors from a visiting cruise ship helped health centre professionals treat the entire family.
     
    The six were medevaced to a hospital in the south for further treatment.
     
    "All family members were in serious condition and regrettably one child has since succumbed as a result of their injuries," Nunavut RCMP said in a news release Tuesday.
     
    Mounties are investigating.
