Fire engulfs Vancouver building

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 28 Jul, 2023 01:06 PM
  • Fire engulfs Vancouver building

A 40-suite apartment building in Vancouver's Mount Pleasant neighbourhood has been destroyed by fire.

Flames broke out last night and tore through the older three-storey structure, collapsing the roof.

Officials with Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services say it's unlikely anything can be saved, leaving at least 40 people homeless.

Three residents had to be plucked from upper floor balconies and firefighters saved several pets, but no one is believed to have been seriously hurt -- although one firefighter had to be checked in hospital and several others were treated on site for heat exhaustion.
