File With 1,000 Patient Records Taken From Office In Winnipeg Hospital

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 02 Nov, 2016 11:48 AM
WINNIPEG — A health official says police are investigating the theft of a file containing records of about 1,000 patients from Winnipeg's largest hospital.

Real Cloutier with the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority says the file was taken from a diagnostic imaging office at the Health Sciences Centre on Oct. 7.

He says a private security company has been hired to look into the data breach.

Cloutier says he doesn't think a member of the public took the file since the office door had a lock and staff had keys.

He says a supervisor is now the only person with a key to the room and files are stored in a locked cabinet.

He says he doesn't know what might have motivated the theft and that the file contained minimal patient information.
