Darpan News Desk, 02 May, 2019 08:01 PM

The Peace Arch border crossing is closed and one person is in the hospital after a car fire in the area.

Drivers are being asked to avoid the Canada-U.S. border crossing at Peace Arch in the wake of a multi-vehicle crash and car fire on the American side of the border.

DriveBC told drivers travelling to the States to "expect delays" on both sides of the border.

Pictures and video posted to social media show a vehicle engulfed in flames and smoke shooting into the air, and teams of emergency responders on scene.

“Approximately 300 metres north of the border on Hwy 99, there’s a three-vehicle collision. One vehicle did catch on fire,” said Surrey RCMP Sgt. Chad Greig. There is no word yet as to any injuries.

Surrey RCMP have confirmed three vehicles were involved in the crash. They are advising drivers to avoid the area and use the Pacific Highway crossing instead.
