VANCOUVER — Ferry service has resumed on two routes between Tsawwassen and Vancouver Island after high winds cancelled sailings on Monday.
Powerful winds that battered Vancouver Island and British Columbia's south coast have eased but wind warnings remain up for much of Vancouver Island, the Fraser Valley, Metro Vancouver, the Sunshine Coast and Southern Gulf Islands.
Environment Canada says strong winds from 70 to 90 kilometres per hour were expected to ease by Monday evening.
BC Hydro's website showed several thousand customers were in the dark across the island by mid-afternoon as that region bore the brunt of the storm.
BC Ferries resumed cancelled sailings on two routes between Tsawwassen and Vancouver Island in the early afternoon while the southern Gulf Islands route was running.
Passengers were urged to check with BC Ferries online or through its toll free number for further updates.
