Fentanyl Blamed In One Death And Two Overdoses In Owen Sound, Ontario

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 24 Dec, 2015 04:18 PM
OWEN SOUND, Ont. — Police say fentanyl is the cause of three recent overdoses in Owen Sound, Ont., that caused the death of one person and the hospitalization of two others.

Owen Sound police Insp. Stephen MacKinnon says they have confirmed the analysis with Health Canada.

MacKinnon says in at least one of the cases, the person thought they were using heroin.

Two men and a woman were taken to hospital on Monday after overdosing on the drug.

Police say a 29-year-old man from nearby Meaford died as a result of the overdose.

Police also believe fentanyl, which is up to 100 times more powerful than other opioids, was responsible for the death of three people in Vancouver.
