Darpan News Desk Surrey RCMP, 27 Jul, 2022 11:03 AM
  • Female pedestrian struck and pinned by a vehicle in Newton dies of injuries: Surrey RCMP

Surrey RCMP say a motor vehicle crash has claimed the life of a female pedestrian in the Newton area.

On Tuesday at approximately midnight, Mounties responded to a report of a single vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in the neighborhood of 74Ave and 121A Street.

When police arrived, they found a woman with serious injuries who had been struck and pinned by a vehicle.

With the assistance of bystanders, police were able to push the vehicle off the victim and began immediate first aid until BC Ambulance Service and Surrey Fire Service took over patient care.

The female pedestrian was transported to hospital and later died of her injuries.

Surrey RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) with assistance from the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS), are investigating the collision.

Via release, police say the driver and passengers of the small grey SUV involved remained on scene.

The investigation is in the early stages and the cause of the collision has not yet been determined, however impaired driving is believed to be a contributing factor.

Anyone with information regarding the collision or dash camera footage from the area is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team at 604-599-0502.
