Feds say 6.6 million 'unsafe vehicles' on the road

The federal government says some 6.6 million unsafe vehicles are likely on the road despite having unresolved safety recalls.
Transport Canada estimated in an analysis from June that one in five of the 33.3 million vehicles registered as of 2019 have outstanding recalls but continue to ply the streets and highways, potentially endangering occupants and other road users.
The department is proposing new rules that would require companies that issue a safety recall to quickly post related information on their website in order to boost awareness and fix the defect.
Premier David Eby says the temporary homes will serve as a "bridge" to health supports and more permanent, stable housing. A statement from the ministry says the units will be in two separate locations near the Science World and Olympic Village SkyTrain stations and are set to open in March 2023.
The homicide team says it's investigating all three cases and the murders of the two men appear to be targeted. Police say they've made an arrest in the woman's case, that the suspect was known to her and it appears to be isolated.
B.C. is faring better after a recent walk-in clinic vaccination blitz, with just over a quarter of kids under five vaccinated against the flu. Of those, B.C. has the highest flu shot uptake at 30 per cent — an improvement from last year.

Mona Nemer released the recommendations today from a task force that was established in the summer to respond to post-COVID-19 condition, or long-COVID. Nemer says as of August, about 15 per cent of adults who've had COVID-19 experience symptoms three months or more after their initial infection.
In July, Canada dodged what was potentially an even bigger blow when the U.S. broadened a policy that would have significantly advantaged the sale of American-made electric vehicles to instead include its NAFTA partners.
