Police in New Westminster say one person is dead after being struck by a train on Monday.
Police say the pedestrian was killed at the intersection of Spruce Street and Brunette Avenue in the city at around 3:30 p-m.
Police say the name of the deceased is not being released.
They say witnesses in need of support can contact the Victim Assistance Unit.
Immigration Minister Marc Miller said at a cabinet retreat in Montreal on Monday that the number of new visas handed out this year will be capped at 364,000, a 35 per cent decrease from the nearly 560,000 issued last year.
