Evening Walk In Edmonton Ends In Emergency Hospital Trip For Pregnant Woman

    EDMONTON — An emergency caesarean section was planned after a woman who was 36 weeks pregnant was struck by a sport-utility vehicle while walking across an Edmonton street.
     
    Police the 25-year-old woman suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries when she was hit in a marked crosswalk early Thursday evening.
     
    Officials expected her baby would survive.
     
    The driver of the SUV remained at the accident scene.
     
    There was no immediate word on charges, but police say speed and alcohol are not considered factors in the collision.
