Elderly Woman Dies After Being Struck By Car In Surrey: RCMP

Darpan News Desk, 27 Oct, 2017 03:49 PM
A woman is dead after a motor vehicle collision in Surrey Friday morning.

RCMP say at around 7 a.m., officers were called to a report of a pedestrian being struck  by a vehicle in the 7700-block of 120th Street.

Corporal Scotty Schumann says an elderly woman was crossing Scott Road when she was hit by a northbound car.

“That car stopped right away and the driver got out to render assistance. Unfortunately, the pedestrian was pronounced deceased at scene as a result of her injuries.”

“Investigators don’t believe impairment or speed are factors,” he adds.

“This is something I think a lot of pedestrians fail to remember. There is some onus on them to protect their own safety. The biggest thing they can do is make eye contact with the oncoming traffic so that they know that they’re seen,” says Schumann.

The victim’s identity has not been confirmed and her family has not been notified yet.

Anyone with more information is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
