Edmonton Area Man Wearing Wingsuit Jumps To Death Near Canmore, Alberta

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 08 Jun, 2015 09:56 AM
CANMORE, Alta. — Alberta Mounties are investigating after a man wearing a wingsuit plunged to his death near Canmore.

Police say the 40-year old Edmonton-area man Gabriel Hubert crashed into trees below Ha Ling Peak around 9:30 Sunday morning.

A release from the RCMP's Canmore detachment says he and two companions had jumped from the mountain wearing wingsuits — a sport referred as wingsuit flying.

The release says it appears the parachute the man was carrying was not deployed, and that he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Calgary Chief Medical Examiner’s Office is also involved in the investigation of the incident.

Hubert and two companions had jumped from the mountain wearing wingsuits, which permits high-altitude jumpers to glide groundward before a parachute is opened.
