East Vancouver Hit And Run Leaves Woman In Hospital With Life-Threatening Injuries

Darpan News Desk, 19 Jan, 2019 04:36 AM

Vancouver Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a vehicle involved in an early morning hit-and-run in East Vancouver that has left a woman in hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Just before 1:30 this morning, a woman and her husband were crossing East 41st Avenue at Commercial Street in a marked crosswalk, and in compliance with the pedestrian light, when they noticed an eastbound vehicle speeding towards them.

Unfortunately, the vehicle drove through the red light and struck the woman before driving off towards Victoria Drive. The driver did not stop or call for help.

The pedestrian, a 53-year-old Vancouver woman, was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Her husband was not physically hurt.

Officers from the VPD’s Collision Investigation Unit have collected evidence at the scene and believe the suspect vehicle is likely a BMW SUV, and it will have obvious front-end damage, including a missing grill.

“Based on the information collected so far, there is no doubt the driver is aware they struck someone,” says VPD Constable Jason Doucette. “We have pieces of your vehicle. Do the right thing and contact the VPD immediately.”

Anyone who may have information about this incident, including the whereabouts of the vehicle, is asked to contact investigators at 604-717-3012 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
