LANGFORD, B.C. — A driver taken into custody after a collision that killed a British Columbia Mountie has been released without charges.
RCMP Cpl. Janelle Shoihet confirmed the man was released Wednesday morning but she says a criminal investigation is active and ongoing.
The man was taken into custody early Tuesday after a crash killed 11-year member of the force Const. Sarah Beckett in Langford, B.C., near Victoria.
Shoihet says in a statement that investigators and analysts have completed their scene examination and are continuing to gather evidence.

She says investigators will take the time necessary to gather all information and evidence and consult with Crown counsel with respect to applicable charges.
The collision happened at an intersection at around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday and Beckett was pronounced dead at around 4 a.m., while the other driver was not seriously injured.
