Driver in hospital after striking the centre median in Surrey, road closures in effect

Darpan News Desk Surrey RCMP, 23 Mar, 2023 10:23 AM
  • Driver in hospital after striking the centre median in Surrey, road closures in effect

UPDATE:

The driver involved in a single vehicle collision last night has died as a result of his injuries.

On Thursday, at approximately 12:08 am., Surrey RCMP responded to the report of a single vehicle collision in the 13100-block of 72 avenue.

The 21-year-old male driver of the vehicle was transported to hospital with life threatening injuries. Despite all lifesaving efforts, the man died as a result of his injuries.

The Surrey RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team has taken conduct of the investigation. Although it does appear that speed was a contributing factor in the collision, a full and complete investigation is required to determine all circumstances that lead to this fatality.

EARLIER STORY:

On Thursday at just after midnight Surrey RCMP were called to 72nd avenue, between 130 street and 132 street, for a report of a single vehicle collision between the intersections.

A black Jaguar sedan was travelling west bound on 72nd avenue when it lost control and struck the centre median.

The adult male driver of the Jaguar was taken to a local area hospital in critical condition with life threatening injuries.

From witness descriptions and video it is believed that speed is the major contributing factor to the collision, and the incident is still under investigation.

72nd avenue is expected to be closed between 132 and 130th street for several hours as the investigation is completed. Surrey RCMP requests that motorists avoid the area and find an alternate route for their morning commute.

Anyone with more information, including dash cam footage around the area of 72nd avenue between midnight and 0015 hours, is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP.
