Driver charged in death of 7-year-old girl

Darpan News Desk Darpan, 31 Jul, 2014 11:44 AM
A 50-year-old man is facing two-driving-related charges in the death of the seven-year-old daughter of John Walsh, president of Conservative Party of Canada.

Georgia Walsh was struck by a minivan in the Bayview Avenue and Millwood Road area in Toronto's Leaside neighbourhood. She was pronounced dead in hospital on July 16.

Police are saying that the 50-year-old driver has been charged with failing to stop at the red light signal and careless driving. He is scheduled to appear in court on September 8.

The Walsh family released a statement Thursday thanking police for their work and requesting for privacy.

"At this time we pray for all the families involved in this tragedy," said the statement. "We would like to thank the thousands of individuals who have sent their thoughts and prayers. The family asks those who wish to contribute to Georgia's legacy to make a donation to Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children."
