  • Driver allegedly bear-sprayed in road rage incident in Richmond, suspect described as a South Asian male

Richmond RCMP is seeking dash cam footage for an alleged assault with a weapon during a road rage incident.

At approximately 7:06 pm on December 27, 2022 Richmond RCMP frontline officers attended the 6600 block of Steveston Hwy for an alleged assault with a weapon resulting from a road rage incident.

According to the victim, a black Hyundai sedan was driving closely behind him through the Massey Tunnel and both vehicles exited Hwy 99 on the Steveston Hwy off-ramp. The victim said the two then proceeded Westbound on Steveston Hwy.

As they proceeded Westbound, the other driver was allegedly swerving between lanes behind the victim, and continued to do so until just past No 4 Rd when he allegedly pulled in front and cut the victim off.

The victim stated at this point, both he and the other driver stopped and exited their vehicles, which is when the driver of the Hyundai allegedly sprayed the victim with bear spray.

The victim stated the suspect driver then returned to his vehicle and drove off Westbound on Steveston Hwy.

The suspect driver is described as:

  • South Asian male
  • Wearing black or dark clothing

The victim was driving a gray 4-door Tesla.

Richmond RCMP is seeking dash cam footage from 6:40 pm through 7:15 pm in the following areas:

  • Northbound Hwy 99 from the Hwy 17 on-ramp to the 99 through the Steveston Hwy off-ramp from Hwy 99
  • Steveston Hwy off-ramp from Hwy 99 to between No 3 Rd and Gilbert Rd

This is a typically a busy stretch of road around 7:00 pm on a weekday, says Cpl. Adriana O’Malley, Richmond RCMP Media Relations officer, We are asking anyone who was in that area around that time to review their dash cam footage or if you witnessed the incident to contact us.

Anyone who may have witnessed, or have information regarding this file, is asked to call Richmond RCMP.
