Douglas Garland to appear in court on murder charges of missing Calgary family

Darpan News Desk Darpan, 16 Jul, 2014 11:05 AM
Douglas Garland is set to appear in court next month on three murder charges of Alvin and Kathryn Liknes and their five-year-old grandson Nathan O'Brien.

The 54-year-old made an appearance before a judge via closed-circuit television from the Calgary Remand Centre to schedule his court dates.

Garland was charged with two counts of first-degree murder for allegedly killing Alvin and Kathryn Liknes and one count of second degree murder for allegedly murdering their grandson Nathan.

Though the bodies of the trio have not been discovered yet, police is saying that the charges are a result of sufficient evidence at hand.

Reportedly, Garland's sister Patti Garland is in a common-law relationship with Allen, Alvin's son.

Garland was taken into custody Monday in a field near his home in Airdrie, Alberta. The property belongs to his parents and has been a prime spot of police investigation.
