Dog frozen to the ground in northern Saskatchewan gets prosthetic paws

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 15 Dec, 2014 02:57 PM

REGINA — A dog that lost its back paws after they were frozen to the ground in northern Saskatchewan is now running around on prosthetic parts.

The border collie cross, named Hector, was a newborn stray when he got into trouble in the village of La Loche in January 2013.

It's believed his hind feet and part of his tail were ripped off when his mother picked him up off the frigid ground.

His new owner in Regina, Lisa Korol (CORE-oll), held a fundraiser earlier this year to get Hector a pair of prosthetics that cost $3,800.

She says he has been racing around with joy since he received his new legs a few days ago.

She hopes to get him certified as a therapy dog for humans who have lost limbs and who are going through rehabilitation.
