Devon Paul Charged In Last July’s Incident Of Forcible Confinement In Surrey

, 06 Feb, 2018 01:41 PM
One man has now been charged after a July 2017 incident where he allegedly held a woman against her will and threatened her with a weapon in Newton.

On July 20th at 12:50 am, a woman was reportedly grabbed on the street, held against her will using a weapon, and forced to walk to her apartment with the suspect (see previous release).

At the apartment the victim called for help from her family who in turn scared the suspect off. Thankfully the victim only received minor injuries. At the time patrol officers in the area identified one person of interest, identified as Devon PAUL, 30 years old of Surrey.

Surrey RCMP’s General Investigation Unit (GIU) took over the investigation. Following up on the information obtained by patrol officers, PAUL later became a suspect after a review of traffic camera footage in the area. A comprehensive package detailing the investigation was sent to Crown Counsel who approved several charges against PAUL.

PAUL has now been charged with Forcible Confinement, Assault with a Weapon, and Uttering Threats. PAUL appeared in court and was released on strict bail conditions. PAUL’s next court appearance is scheduled for February 13th.

Thanks to PAUL’s identity that was collected by patrol officers at the time of the incident, the eventual arrest of PAUL after a thorough investigation was possible, says Corporal Scotty Schumann. Sharing of information between units of the Surrey RCMP is critical to ensuring the success of many investigations.
