Designated Driver Blew 2 1/2 Times Legal Limit, Kingston, Ont., Police Allege

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 12 Sep, 2016 01:02 PM
  • Designated Driver Blew 2 1/2 Times Legal Limit, Kingston, Ont., Police Allege
KINGSTON, Ont. — Police in Kingston, Ont., say a "designated driver" is facing impaired driving charges after allegedly blowing more than two times the legal limit.

They say an officer noticed an SUV roll through a stop sign on Saturday morning and followed the vehicle as the driver failed to proceed at a green light, made wide turns and drove at inconsistent speeds.

When the officer stopped the vehicle and spoke to the driver he noticed the smell of alcohol in the vehicle, but was told the four passengers had been drinking, and the man behind the wheel was the designated driver.

The driver was taken to a police station for breath testing and it's alleged the tests indicated he had approximately 2 1/2 times the legal limit of alcohol in his bloodstream.

A 22-year-old Kingston man is charged with impaired driving and driving in excess of the legal limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol.
