  • Delta man faces arson charges

A man is facing arson charges after allegedly setting fire to the same location in Delta two days in a row.

Delta police say one of the incidents happened on February 1st, when an officer saw a fire in the disposal shed of a local restaurant.

Fire crews extinguished the blaze before it spread to the main restaurant building, and police were able to identify and arrest the suspect through surveillance video identification.

A following investigation found the man had been seen on January 31st at the same location, and another fire had taken place at that time.

Ian Hubbard with Environment Canada says strong winds are forecast to begin in southern Nova Scotia and New Brunswick and sweep across the provinces through the day and overnight. The storm is expected to head overnight across the Cabot Strait and into southern Newfoundland, where powerful winds are also expected. Hubbard says the strongest gusts may reach up to 110 km/h and that between 50 to 80 millimetres of rain will fall.
