Delta Man, 53, Dead After Bar Fight In South Delta

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 12 Dec, 2016 12:08 PM
On December 11, 2016 at approximately 0130 hrs., Delta Police responded to a report of a fight at the rear of Rose and Crown Pub  in the 1200 blk 56th Street in South Delta.

On arrival, initial information indicated that there was an altercation between a small group of males including a 53 yr old man. Those involved in the altercation fled prior to police arrival.

However, the 53 year old male was found unconscious and unresponsive in the area. Despite efforts of paramedics to resuscitate him, he died at hospital. The deceased is a local resident and police have conducted the notification of next of kin.

An emotional Shelley Metrow, the owner of the Rose and Crown, said she has known the man who died for 30 years.

“He was just a really nice guy. He would do anything for anybody. Anything,” said Metrow.

“He came and cooked for me for awhile because he knew I needed one. He didn’t need the job.”

He had been at the pub with his daughter, who is in her 20s. His daughter left earlier than him. She was called back to say goodbye to her dad when he was found unconscious in the parking lot.

“I feel for his family and his daughter,” cried Metrow. “She said goodbye to her dad and four hours later he was gone. It’s horrible.”

Delta police are treating this as a suspicious death until the actual cause of death can be determined. There are currently two males in custody for questioning and the investigation continues.

It is believed that there may have been additional witnesses that have not spoken to police. Investigators are requesting anyone who may have seen the altercation or time leading up to it, call Delta Police at 604 946 4411.

There  is no additional information available at this time.
