Moments of silence are being held today to mark the national day of mourning for people who have died, been injured or suffered illness on the job.
Nova Scotia N-D-P Leader Claudia Chender noted there were 24 workplace deaths in the province last year -- more than the year before.
She says the day of mourning reminds political leaders that workers are counting on them to ensure safe workplaces.

The federal statutory holiday, also known as Orange Shirt Day, was established last year to remember children who died while being forced to attend residential schools, as well as those who survived, and the families and communities still affected by lasting trauma.
