Darpan Magazine's Extraordinary Achievement Awards: Celebrating South Asian Excellence

    It’s that time of the year again! DARPAN is all set to present the most-exciting event of the year in Surrey – Darpan Magazine’s Extraordinary Achievement Awards 2017.
     
     
    It will be yet another memorable night where ten renowned individuals within the South Asian community will be honoured for their remarkable achievements in their respective fields.
     
     
    Celebrating its eight year, Darpan Awards will bring together social, business and political elite under one roof, congratulating and admiring the extraordinary achievements of the winners. 
     
     
    Taking place on Friday, September 15, at the Aria Banquet Hall and Convention Centre, the grand event will feature an inspiring Keynote Speaker, the award ceremony, gourmet cuisine, beautiful fashion show, and sensational entertainment. During the two-month award nomination period that ended on August 15, DARPAN accepted and shortlisted nominations from various regions of Canada.
     
     
     
     
    Publishers Gurvinder Hundal and Ramneek Dhillon created the Extraordinary Awards to honour members from the South Asian community for their achievements and contribution to the community. “It is our hope that the life and work of these awardees will serve as an inspiration for all South Asians to realize the power of their dreams,” say publishers Gurvinder Hundal and Ramneek Dhillon.
     
     
    DARPAN Awards is proud to present this year’s Keynote Speaker, Ravi Singh, founder and CEO of Khalsa Aid organization. Khalsa Aid is an international NGO with the aim to provide humanitarian aid in disaster areas and civil conflict zones around the world. 
     
     
    The idea of taking the concept of langar aka Sikh community kitchen to people or regions that needed it the most gave birth to Khalsa Aid organization in 1999 in London, United Kingdom. Starting with the first mission in Kosovo, Singh has worked in war-hit zones like Syria and Yemen; helped multiple countries struck with disaster like the Nepal earthquake, famine in Kenya, and Indonesia Tsunami; and aided refugee camps in Greece, Lebanon and Congo, among many others. 
     
     
     
    “We have attended almost every disaster. We don’t do just bits and pieces, [with] each operation we are spending more, learning more, and utilizing local groups,” he says proudly. DARPAN Awards, which aims at celebrating the extraordinary achievements of South Asians, is honoured to have this selfless humanitarian as the 2017 Keynote Speaker and International Sensation Award Winner.
     
     
    Highlighting the awards ceremony, 10 South Asians will be given the prestigious Darpan Extraordinary Achievement Award, for contributing greatly towards the Canadian society and encouraging the spirit of community. 
     
     
    Past award winners include Canada’s Defence Minister Harjit Sajjan (Breaking Barriers Award 2011); Samsung’s Global Senior Vice President of Research Pranav Mistry (International Sensation Award Winner and Keynote Speaker 2016); Canadian lawyer, former judge and Chancellor of the Thompson Rivers University Wally Oppal (Industry Marvel 2015); Father of Fibre Optics Dr. Narinder Kapany (International Sensation Award Winner and Keynote Speaker 2013); and Canada’s Top 20 under 20 Anoop Virk (Young Wonder Award 2014.
     
     
     
     
    The fashion show this year will be presented by Frontier Fashions. A popular name in the fashion and clothing world, the bridal boutique will showcase an extensive collection of traditional Indian wear for men and women at the fashion show.
     
     
    The entertainment segment will be one that promises to get everyone dancing through the night. Two Indian singers known worldwide for their great voice will be setting the mood at the event with their sensational voice and foot-tapping music.

    International Sensation – In honour of your extraordinary achievements as an individual, who is committed to enhancing lives on a global scale
