Dalhousie University gives Halifax police copies of misogynistic Facebook posts

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 14 Jan, 2015 12:06 PM

HALIFAX — Dalhousie University says it has given Halifax police copies of Facebook postings of sexually violent comments allegedly made by male dentistry students about their female classmates.

In an email, Dalhousie spokesman Brian Leadbetter says the school has "shared the requested information" but offered no other details.

Const. Pierre Bourdages of the Halifax police confirmed that they have received the information and are reviewing it.

He says officers will look at the multiple Facebook posts to determine if there was any criminal wrongdoing, which could prompt an investigation.

Bourdages says Dalhousie initially refused the request to provide the postings based on student privacy concerns, but then said it would co-operate.

The Facebook group where the comments were posted included 13 male dentistry students and reportedly had members vote on which woman they'd like to have "hate" sex with and joked about using chloroform on women.

The page has been taken down.
