On Saturday, May 22, 2021, at approximately 7:45 p.m., police responded to a wellness check at the address of 25 James Park Square.
It is reported that:
- when officers arrived, they located a woman in the hallway of the home, deceased with obvious signs of trauma
- officers also located a man in the basement of the home deceased
The woman has been identified as Daisy Sehgal, 46, of Toronto. An autopsy revealed her cause of death to be neck compressions.
The man has been identified as Anurag Kalwar, 50, of Toronto.
The Toronto Police Homicide unit has taken carriage of the investigation. The deaths are not being treated as suspicious, there are no outstanding suspects.
f the active cases, 340 individuals are currently hospitalized with COVID-19, 118 of whom are in intensive care. The remaining people with COVID-19 are recovering at home in self-isolation.
While speaking with officers, Baez suddenly took off running and was able to get in the drivers seat of a car parked nearby. There was a brief struggle with officers as Baez attempted to start the car.
As officers were on their way to the call they learned that the Loss Prevention Officer had been stabbed by the suspect while apprehending him for theft.
