Crown alleges woman used phoney home invasion to mask plot to murder parents

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 01 Dec, 2014 11:18 AM

NEWMARKET, Ont. — Prosecutors say an attack that left a Toronto-area woman dead and her husband severely injured was orchestrated by their daughter and made to look like a home invasion so she wouldn't be suspected.

The Crown is making its closing arguments today in Newmarket, Ont., in the murder trial of Jennifer Pan, 28.

Pan and three others _ including her on-again, off-again boyfriend Daniel Wong _ are charged with first-degree murder in the Nov. 8, 2010 attack.

Her 53-year-old mother, Bieh Ha Pan, was shot dead. Her father, Hann Pan, 60, was shot in the face but survived.

The Crown alleges Pan wanted her parents out of the way so she could be with Wong, who they had forbidden her from seeing.

But the defence says Pan didn't know about the attack and never meant for her mother to die.

CALGARY — With the price of crude plunging to its lowest level more than four and a half years, consumers are benefiting at the gas pump, but the savings are being dampened somewhat by a weaker dollar and other factors, according to an energy expert.
