Crowdfunding Campaign For Ont. Stable Fire That Killed 43 Horses Hits $150,000

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 08 Jan, 2016 12:46 PM
PUSLINCH, Ont. — A crowdfunding campaign in aid of those affected by a southern Ontario stable fire that killed 43 racehorses earlier this week has raised more than $150,000.

The fire late Monday night at Classy Lane Training Centre destroyed a barn housing horses trained by Ben Wallace, Roger Mayotte, Chantal Mitchell, Kris Di Cenzo, Dan Lagace and Floyd Amos.

The owners say those wishing to make donations should do so through the official GoFundMe page which has been set up by the Central Ontario Standardbred Association.

As of Friday afternoon, 730 donations had been made totalling nearly $160,000 of the $500,000 goal. The preliminary estimate of losses due to the fire is up to $6 million.

The GoFundMe listing says the money raised will be pooled together to help all of the horsepeople involved in the tragedy.

The cause of the blaze at the Puslinch, Ont., facility is still under investigation.
