Crews Struggle To Contain Massive Wildfire Southwest Of Prince George

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 11 May, 2015 01:21 PM
  • Crews Struggle To Contain Massive Wildfire Southwest Of Prince George
PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — About 80 people have been ordered to leave their homes as crews continue to battle a massive wildfire in northern British Columbia.

Jill Kelsh of the B.C. government's wildfire management branch says the evacuations are from a number of permanent and seasonal homes in Little Bobtail Lake and Naltesby Lake.

More resources are being called in to fight the 25 square-kilometre  blaze near Norman Lake, about 60 kilometres southwest of Prince George.

Kelsh says the fire was about 20 hectares in size when it was first spotted Saturday but quickly spread.

About two dozen firefighters and two helicopters responded, but the blaze wasn't at all contained by Sunday night.

Thick smoke can be seen billowing over the highway and surrounding communities.
