LYTTON, B.C. — Firefighters have now contained about 15 per cent of a massive wildfire blazing south of Lytton, B.C.

The B.C. Wildfire Management Branch says no significant growth in the fire occurred Saturday morning and the blaze is now about 12.8 square kilometres in size.

The branch says about 6.7 millimetres of rain fell on the fire Friday, but cautions that winds and warmer temperatures could increase fire activity Saturday afternoon.

High winds are carrying heavy smoke throughout the region in southern B.C. and it is visible from Merritt, Kamloops and Vernon.

One home has been destroyed while 10 others remain under an evacuation order issued by the Lytton First Nation.

About 88 firefighters, seven helicopters and three pieces of heavy equipment have been brought in to battle the blaze.
