Craft Distilleries In Vancouver Area Serve Up Cocktails, Offer Tours

The Canadian Press , 28 Aug, 2014 12:34 AM
VANCOUVER - There's a thriving craft distillery scene in and around Vancouver, which is being helped by recent changes to B.C. liquor regulations.

Thirsty visitors have plenty of options. Some highlights suggested on Tourism Vancouver's Inside Vancouver blog:

    — Deep Cove Brewers and Distillers, scenically located in North Vancouver: Offerings, some of them limited edition, include a rosemary and olive gin, a French-style absinthe and an espresso vodka. Visitors mingle with staff in the tasting room. Unit 170 - 2270 Dollarton Hwy., http://deepcovecraft.com.

    — The Liberty Distillery, Vancouver: Spirits made from 100 per cent B.C. grain are distilled on site in handmade copper stills. Tours offered on weekends. 1494 Old Bridge St., http://thelibertydistillery.com.

    — Long Table Distillery, Vancouver: Small-batch processing of gins, vodkas and seasonal spirits with local ingredients. Events include gin and tonic Fridays. Spirits are seasoned with everything from cucumbers to botanical blends. 1451 Hornby St., http://longtabledistillery.com.

    — Odd Society Spirits, Vancouver: Recently launched in East Vancouver. Customers can sample cocktails and buy bottles of whisky, vodka and gin. 1725 Powell St., http://www.oddsocietyspirits.com.

    — Sons of Vancouver, North Vancouver: Set to open this fall, the distillery recently took part in the annual BC Distilled exhibition, serving up a spicy chili vodka. 1431 Crown St., http://sonsofvancouver.ca.
