Craft Clay Dentures Prompt Court Action Against Unlicensed B.C. Man

The Canadian Press, 14 Jun, 2016 12:18 PM
VANCOUVER — Several dental regulators in British Columbia have asked the province's Supreme Court to stop what they allege is an unlicensed denturist operating in the Vancouver area.

The College of Dental Surgeons, College of Denturists, and College of Dental Technicians of B.C. have filed a petition in B.C. Supreme Court asking that the man be stopped from making false teeth from modelling clay.

Court documents shows the court action began after a Craigslist ad offered individual hand-made partial dentures for $100 each.

The ad has since been removed, but the documents allege an investigator visited the man's apartment in Richmond and learned a hard-drying craft clay was being used to make the false teeth, although the clay is not advised for contact with food or liquid.

The colleges say the man is not registered with any dental college in British Columbia and the petition seeks special costs, alleging his actions put the public at risk.

None of the allegations has been tested in court.
