Costco Recalls Product Sold In B.C. And Prairies Over Listeria Concern

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 13 May, 2016 12:38 PM
REGINA — A possible listeria contamination has prompted Costco to recall a product sold in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Costco Wholesale Canada Ltd. is recalling Ajinomoto brand Yakitori Chicken with Japanese-Style Fried Rice.

It says the product was given as free samples in some stores in the past few months.

The recall is for 1.53 kilograms bags with the UPC code 0 71757 05642 8.

The bags have a best before date of July 1, 2016, to May 7, 2017.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says the recalled items should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were bought.

Food contaminated with listeria can cause vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headaches and neck stiffness.

The CFIA says the recall was prompted by a food safety investigation being done on a recall in another country. It says it may lead to the recall of other products.
